Dear all, A reminder for next week, our next meeting is* Tuesday 9 September 14.00 CEST*. *This is our Plenary session. *These quarterly sessions include presentations from your fellow group members. This next plenary is by Bertrand Caron who will be presenting how TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and University Library are handling validation errors returned by JHOVE: “One way of handling validation errors returned by JHOVE or other validation tools is to correct format structures. This operation is delicate, requires an in-depth knowledge of analysis tools and format specifications, and might lead to damage and information loss if not performed with enough caution. Nevertheless, in some cases, for example when the file rendering is obviously affected by erroneous structures, this operation can be necessary. Elaborating on the previous work done by [group co-Chair] Micky Lindlar, I will present several use cases of PDF and TIFF repair that had major impact on the file content. I will discuss the importance of a broad range of tools available, the risks identified when performing these operations and a suggested ideal development of a file “repair” process.” We hope you have all had great summers, and hope to see you there! While we expect attendance to be lighter, we did have some feedback that people would like to still have the option of coming to the summer sessions. Dear all, A reminder for next week; our *next meeting is Tuesday 10th June 14.00 CEST*. This session will run as usual with breakout rooms. We would like to know your opinion on whether we should continue to run these sessions over the summer; we are happy to do so if you wish to attend. We are aware that many are away for this time, but if we are aware of your intention to attend we will happily host the sessions for July and August. Just let me know! BY JHOVE! A New GUI is available for testing

Dear all, As demonstrated in our *BY JHOVE! Explain Yourself *session earlier this week, Darren has built a prototype of a web application for a NEW GUI for JHOVE based on initial feedback. We hope to eventually incorporate this through all JHOVE applications, and would *love* your feedback throughout its development. Plenary BY JHOVE! Session, next Tuesday, May 13th

From the National Archives of the Netherlands, Jacob Takema and Lotte Wijsman will talk about their process and (future) development. Next ByJHOVE! meeting Tuesday, March 11th

Hi all, I hope you've been well recently. Our next *BY JHOVE! *meeting will be next *Tuesday, March 11th at 14.00 CET*. For this session we have created a new Errors and Warnings breakout room, adjacent to the existing rooms (PDF-HUL 45 “Malformed filter”, TIFF-HUL 6 “Count mismatch for tag <tag>; expecting <minCount>, saw <count>”, PDF-HUL 85 “No document catalog dictionary” + PDF-HUL 33 “Improperly nested dictionary delimiters”) we will also have *PDF-HUL 66 “Lexical Error”*. Adjacent to the breakout rooms for this session, we will be running a highly-requested *GitHub training*. This will be perfect for beginners to attend and learn lots of new skills. Hi all, *Tuesday 11th February at 14.00 CET*, will be our next *By JHOVE!* meeting. Thank you to those who attended our first plenary meeting in January, it was great to see you there :) Our previous session had two presentations from members of this group on how JHOVE is used within their institutions. It's been a few weeks, but we encourage you to follow up if you had any questions or queries from these presentations: - If you have any questions about CSC's 'File Validation Tools, File Scraper & JHOVE' presentation, please reach out to them on their support email: pas-support(a)csc.fi <pas-support(a)csc.fi>. - Or, if you have any questions for Sofi about 'Workflows for file format identification and validation error treatment at Digital Archives Flanders', please forward them to sofie.ruysseveldt(a)vlaanderen.be. Their presentation did have some prompt questions on their 'Considerations' slide, so please do review these at your leisure. Thanks again to our speakers! It was really interesting to hear how JHOVE is used within your organisations. This upcoming session will return to our usual Breakout Rooms format. The Documentation tracks will remain the same, and Errors and Warnings will remain mostly the same; many have requested to continue working on their issue.
