It's difficult to give a definitive answer without seeing your files.
But several generic advices are: - make sure the document contains an XMP metadata with the correct identification of PDF/A standard - make sure the colors are defined in a device-independent manner. If your document is just B&W, but not ICC-based B&W, you might need to add an Output intent structure to your PDF with an appropriate ICC color profile - if any text is used in the document, make sure all fonts are embedded
But normally veraPDF should tell you what exactly causes PDF/A errors in your document. Feel free to ask more questions, if you have problems understanding veraPDF errors.

I am trying to make my pdf files conforming to PDF/A. They are simple black on white (the letterhead is printed along with the document on a b&w printer). Is there a good recipe to make the validator happy?
