The Open Preservation Foundation is pleased to announce that veraPDF 1.14 has been released. veraPDF is an open source, industry supported PDF/A validator, and part of the OPF reference toolset. This release contains a number of bug fixes and feature requests including the latest resolutions from the Validation Technical Working Group of the PDF Association. All jars and applications have been signed in this release and we have also made significant improvements to the performance of the software. OPF Workshop: Getting Started with veraPDFFriday 24 May, 09:00 - 13:00 at the Nationaal Archief, The Hague This half-day workshop will provide participants with an understanding of what veraPDF does, how to install and configure the software and how to interpret the results. veraPDF is an open source, industry supported PDF/A validation and characterisation tool and part of the OPF reference toolset. It can be used by itself or as part of a digital preservation workflow. It is also embedded in several off-the-shelf digital preservation products. Who should attend? This digital preservation workshop is aimed at anyone who is new to veraPDF. Learning objectives: - Discover the main features of the PDF/A specifications and their relation to the standard PDF file formats. - Learn how to install and use veraPDF and how to interpret the results. Understand what its capabilities and limitations are. - Find out how to report bugs, request features and contribute to improving veraPDF, benefitting the whole community. [veraPDF-users] value type for /AF entry

Dear list, validating a PDF/A-3 document with an attachment, the latest development version of veraPDF complains of missing /AF reference in /Catalog, /Page or similar element. I found https://www.pdfa.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/PDF20_AN002-AF.pdf. But in order to report the issue to the PDF creation tool, I need to know for sure which is the value type and the value of the /AF entry. I guess it should be an array of one or multiple /EmbeddedFile object references, such as in: /AF [8 0 R 10 0 R 40 0 R] Could anyone confirm this? [veraPDF-users] HTML report in Command Line Interface

Dear all, I would like to ask you for advice with VeraPDF command line interface. My institution (Charles University) use Vera as a validator of students' thesis. Students are supposed to submit thesis in PDF/A format and pass validation test based on our custom profile. In case of failure they get a VeraPDF xml report. Problem is that XML report is not very user-friendly. We would like to use HTML report with links to validation rules wiki, but it doesn't seem to be possible from CLI. Is there any solution of this? Has anyone tried to use html report from CLI? Thank you in advance Eliška Pavlásková

[veraPDF-users] Possible veraPDF issues

Hello, everyone, We've noticed possible issues with veraPDF's treatment of the following files from the Isartor test suite (in 1B mode): E:\PDFTest\PDFA\PDFA-1b\Bavaria testsuite\conforming\Real world\braun_feudel.pdf E:\PDFTest\PDFA\PDFA-1b\Bavaria testsuite\nonconforming\PDFA\apogee.pdf For the first file, the '-32768' in obj 336 is treated as a Real, even though it lacks a decimal point. For the second file, obj 164 is treated as a Metadata object and therefore fails due to the presence of a 'Filter' key inside it, even though it lacks the required 'Type Metadata' entry inside it and is therefore technically not a Metadata object stream dictionary.
